A leading challenge for the clean energy sector is the intermittency associated with both solar and wind energy generation. When coupled with the potential development of plug-in vehicles, the grid operators are facing significant challenges for maintaining a secure, robust and cost effective power grid. One of the solutions to this challenge is the development of advanced energy storage capabilities. This panel will review the advances being made in energy storage, including advanced lithium-ion and flow batteries, flywheels, ultra capacitors, and other energy storage solutions.
